Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar has declared a public health emergency in Oregon as historic wildfires continue to burn. The declaration will give healthcare workers more access to needed supplies. This comes as the wildfires have created an air quality crisis for the state. Oregon’s air quality is currently considered the worst in the entire world. The wildfires have burned more than one-million acres throughout the state.

Marion County authorities are assessing more of the damage caused by the Beachie Creek Fire. The wildfire has burned 470 homes, and nearly eight-hundred other buildings. The fire is now 20-percent contained after burning about 191-thousand acres.

Two more patients are dead from COVID-19. The latest numbers from the Oregon Health Authority put the state’s death toll at 521. OHA also reported 195 new cases. The state’s case total is just under 30-thousand.
