We have been told now, that the La Grande School District will delay the search for a new Island City Elementary principal at least for another year, after a request from John Tolan, Island City’s principal since 2002 to return as principal next fall. Tolan previously announced, back in December, that he planned to retire June 30th, saying he was considering working in education as a substitute teacher or as a supervisor of student teachers for couple years. But Superintendent Mendoza encouraged him to stay on as principal for a little longer.
